Batwing BWO emerger

Materials needed:

Hook:  TMC 206BL sizes #16-20.

Weight:  1.5mm tungsten or brass bead, black.

Thread:  Tan or olive 8/0 uni-thread.

Tail:  Blue dun hackle fibers.

Body:  Olive goose biot.

Wing:  Natural colored CDC feathers.

Wing case:  CDC feathers stripped.
Thorax:  Olive gray superfine dubbing.

Put your bead on your hook and start your thread.

Tie in your tail.

Trim the tag ends off.

Tie in your goose biot by the tip, and wrap your thread forward.

I put some wax on the goose biot before I tie it in. It's easier to work with that way.

Wrap your goose biot forward, and tie it off.

I put a coat of super glue on the body to make the goose biot more durable.

Select two CDC feathers of similar size.

Tie in the tips of the CDC and trim the tag ends.

You can tie them in at any length.  You will be trimming them to length later anyway.

Repeat with the tag ends you just cut...

Strip all of the fibers off the tag ends of your CDC feathers.

Tie them in side by side, just behind the wing.

Dub your thread with some olive gray superfine dubbing....

...and build up a thorax

Make one wrap of thread over the top of the bead so you are at the eye of the hook.

Split your CDC wing evenly so there is the same amount on both sides.  Then fold your stripped CDC wingcase over the thorax and the bead.  Tie them off just behind the eye of the hook.

Trim the wingcase, and whip finish.

Trim your wings to length.  They should be no longer than the body.

I apply a bit of super glue to the wingcase to hold it in place.
