Materials Needed:
Hook: TMC 206BL sizes #14-18.
Body: Vinyl rib, olive.
Rib: Dubbing loop of AZ synthetics cream dubbing.
Legs: Wood duck flank.
Wings: CDC, BWO color.
Wing case: Pheasant tail fibers.
Thorax: Olive green dubbing.
Place your hook in your vise.
I put 10 wraps of lead wire for weight on this size 16 hook.
Start your thread just behind the lead wraps....
....and cover the lead wraps by wrapping the thread across the wraps to lock them in place.
Tie in your vinyl rib just behind the lead wraps, and wrap to just about the middle of the hook gap.
Leave a small thread dubbing loop, and wrap your thread forward.
Wrap your vinyl rib forward, and tie it off.
Trim the butt end of the vinyl rib.
Wax your dubbing loop.
Twist the loop to lock the dubbing in place. Use a dubbing brush to comb out all the fibers.
Wrap this dubbing loop forward just like you would wrap a rib, leaving a space between wraps where you can see the vinyl rib underneath.
Tie in some pheasant tail fibers for a wing case.
Tie in your legs. They should reach the end of the hook gap.
Trim the butt ends.
Select 2 CDC feathers of similar size.
Tie in the tip of the CDC feather as a wing. It should extend just pass the end of the hook shank.
Do the same on the other side.
Trim the butt ends.
Dub some olive green dubbing onto your thread.
Wrap your dubbed thread forward evenly to build a thorax.
Whip finish, and apply head cement. I like to put a drop of UV resin on the wing case.
