Materials Needed:
Hook: Standard nymph hook #18-24
Thread: Olive 8/0 uni-thread
Bead: Copper bead
Tail: 3 pheasant tail fibers
Body: Stripped, and soaked peacock herl.
Rib: Fine silver wire
Thorax: Olive dubbing.
Wingcase: Turkey tail feather
Legs: 3 pheasant tail fibers on each side.
Start by selecting a strip of peacock herl.
Using an eraser, strip the peacock herl so you are left with just the stem.
Place the stem in some water to soak.
This helps strengthen the brittle stem when you are wrapping your body.
Place your bead on your hook.
Start your thread.
Build up a little bump where you are going to tie in your tail.
Tie in your 3 pheasant tail fibers just in front of the bump of thread.
Trim the tag ends of your pheasant tail fibers, and tie them in.
Tie in your stripped and soaked peacock herl, along with your silver wire rib.
Wrap your peacock stem first and tie it off.
Counter wrap (wrap the opposite way you wrapped your peacock stem) your silver wire, and tie it off.
Cut a piece of turkey tail feather. It should be about the width of the hook gap.
I always put some Sally Hansen's on this to keep the fibers from separating.
Cut an angle to cut back on bulk when you tie it in.
Tie in your wingcase.
Dub some olive dubbing onto your thread.
Build your thorax.
Tie in your legs.
Pull the legs to length, and trim.
Tie in your legs on the other side. Pull to length, and trim.
Fold your wingcase over the thorax, and tie it down.
Apply head cement to the thread, and whip finish.
